4138552710 1 2 AbJo Sankofa EP (@AbJoMDNK) #phrenologists

I definitely meant to post this earlier when AbJo tweeted this to me on Twitter.  I have come to realize, anything he sends me I’ve got to listen to and more than 10300283028 % it’s going to be something that I like– this is nothing different.   Here is the new EP from AbJo in the form of Sankofa EP.  Here’s a little about the project,

As we transition into a conscious era of time, Soulection is kicking off a series of releases from a diverse selection of artists from all over the world. After independently releasing over 10 albums over the past couple of years, San Diego’s very own AbJo has created Soulection’s third installment. AbJo has been on our radar for quite sometime and it was only necessary that we created a project that represents both of our visions.
Sankofa resembles a soundscape that ranges from Future-Soul, Jazz, Eclectic-Fusion, Hip-Hop, & Deep-Thought sounds that trigger your mind into the thought of what The Sound of Tomorrow should sound like. AbJo designs a sound visual that incorporates heavy snares, hi-hats, future-drums, vintage-pianos, timeless-samples, & crisp synths that bring out your roots.

“I’ve been making beats for the better part of 4 years, but I’ve been musically involved since I was 9, so about 13 years now….There are a lot of influences in my life, but the biggest ones were my father’s music collection, my classical music background, The Roots (my favorite hip hop band, period), Dilla and Madlib, and jazz music in general. These days, though, cats like Dibia$e, Freddie Joachim and FlyLo are my biggest inspirations…Sankofa means “to return from whence you came”, but to me it also means to re-complete the cycle, the same cycle you’ve been completing since your soul has inhabited this existance; to basically go back to your roots again, renewed and evolved from the last time you progressed, to reflect and be one with yourself again, as you always have been…”
