I’ve been a fan of Chris Turner ever since I got an email for the track “Liquid Love” produced by The Stuyvestants.  After thinking wow, his voice is crazy dope, I realized he is from my homeland of Oakland California, which only made my fandom go further.  Then, I learned he was also Bilal’s background singer which made for three super cool things about Mr. Turner.  I CAN’T wait to hear a full project from Turner, I imagine there will be a lot of “sanging.”

With that being said, I just saw this video floating around on The Conscious Tip, and thought I’d put it up.  Here’s Turner doing a really dope cover in this form of this mash-up gumbo– Sly & The Family Stone’s “If You Want Me To Stay” with one of my favorite songs ever Musiq Soulchild’s “Just Friends.”  Definitely great vocals, and these songs together fit so well.

*Random Erin Fact* you may not care, but, a little family history about myself, my grandparents actually bought the house that they live in now from Sly Stone.  mmkay, finished.
