I’ve been meaning to post this for a few days and now, since I am officially off work for five days… Erin has time to blog. Here is the new EP from one of my favorite production duos, Chicago based Tensei in the form of Two EP. My goal is to do an in-depth review of the project on here or my new venture (which I will explain later) but until now, check it out.
The EP was released via one of my favorite indie labels (I only have two) Plug Research, and is said to be inspired by 70′s soul, afro-funk, and themed soundtracks that recall espionage, Two builds from the experimental hip-hop inspired beats of One.
However, “Two” takes the groove deeper with it’s jazzy inflections, ethnic rhythms, cosmic electronics, and live instrumentation, making it a bit more soulful and funkier. The lone vocal track, “Think Twice,” which features multi-instrumentalist Khari Lemuel of TheOnes and Jae Franklin is an ode to the infectious soul classics of yesteryear with a modernized twist while “Passport,” which was featured on the Plug Research “2012″ Compilation, is an exquisite sound filled with lush pleasantries. And while this is Tensei’s second formal release, it still marks the beginning for the artists, so journey with them as they continue on a path that pushes the limits and boundaries of hip hop inspired beat making and production to new levels.
