Eric Roberson is one of my favorite soul singers. After getting the opportunity to interview him on the site a while ago, prior to the release of his then new album Music Fan First, I have penned him to be one of the coolest musicians, and a great/singer songwriter. If you have never checked out that interview, you can do that here. (that was prior to having a Twitter + Facebook integration)
Also, after seeing Roberson’s live show a few times — that only deepened my fandom. With that being said, here is the latest video from Eric Roberson’s latest installment Mister Nice Guy, which was released earlier this year. For the track, Roberson hooks up with Philadelphia based emcee Hezekiah for a song that should be a tip of guidance to all you men out there. Hezekiah also directed the video.
I also got the chance to catch up with Hezekiah for an interview with Grungecake about his then new collaboration, Johnny Popcorn, and when asked about the collaboration he said:
“That’s my dude. I sent him a track, he wrote to it and sent it back to me with the vocals and he asked me to be featured on it and I rhymed on it, it was that simple. The subject was so easy for me to write because as a man, it was so easy for me to write some reflective lyrics at the time. I was like reflecting on myself and really coming to grips with if relationship after relationship is failing it has to be me. I’m the common denominator in all of these relationships so it has to be me. That song came at a perfect time. It was like therapeutic. That’s how it came about and that’s why it has that honesty about it.”
