New York, is considered to be the birthplace of hip-hop with a legacy of great artist; Biggie, Jay-Z, Run DMC, A Tribe Called Quest and now Kid Daytona. With three albums under his belt: The Daytona 500, A Tribe Called Fresh, and Come Fly With Me. Kid Daytona has made a name for himself among bloggers and hip-hop heads. Following the positive response of his last project Come Fly With Me– Kid Daytona allowed Rawe to get an exclusive interview with him.
Bella: So, you know how most musicians have stories about this pivotal moment when they started their craft? What was yours?
Kid Daytona: Well, basically, my story starts in 87’ when I moved to the South Bronx when my mother had passed away. I stayed with my Grandmother and my uncle who was like 13 years older then me, and he was really into hip-hop. He used to scratch to LL back in the “Rock the Bells,” era, and to Run DMC and all that. So I’m just like a baby looking up at him like what is he doing—and all that early music, like early hip-hop and Reggae, just a whole bunch of things, all influenced me and as I got older, it turned into a natural progression. The first rhyme I ever wrote was to Raekwon, a song from his Cuban Linx album and I was like in the 5th grade and I just wrote a song sounding like him and when I came back to class I rapped it for my friends and no one said I was wack, so I guess I kind of just kept going and it started out as fun and ended up as a career.
Here is Erk Tha Jerk’s new video from his mixtape, Hood Nerd 2. If you still don’t have this mixtape—you are slipping, but since I’m nice I wont hold it against you, download it here. He’s a really dope artist, so be on the look out of more from him.

Aw, new video from Alicia Keys starring Lucas from One Tree Hill (can’t remember his real name). It’s such a nice video exploring the different decades of interracial inequality essentially. It’s nice and when you really think about the video with the lyrics it has such a deeper meaning, plus Alicia looks beautiful in every decade– my personal favorites was the 70′s. Awww.
